The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has stepped into the political crisis in Rivers State, setting up a reconciliation process aimed at easing tensions and preserving democratic order in the state.
Leading the intervention is a high-level Reconciliation Committee chaired by Chief Godwin Agabi, which has begun consultations with key political stakeholders as part of efforts to restore stability and political harmony.
Speaking after the committee’s inaugural engagement, Agabi urged political actors to put the interest of Rivers people above personal and partisan ambitions, stressing that sustained confrontation could weaken governance and further polarise the state.
He said the situation demands dialogue, restraint and compromise, noting that peace and mutual respect are essential for resolving the impasse and safeguarding democratic institutions.
Agabi explained that PANDEF’s involvement was guided by its mandate to promote stability in the Niger Delta and protect the region’s political and economic wellbeing.
Political observers see the move as a crucial step towards de-escalating the crisis, expressing optimism that sustained engagement by the committee will help rebuild trust and restore confidence in the state’s leadership.
