The fourth edition of the Thalis Olonite Apalowo Essay Competition has been concluded in Akoko, with brilliant students emerging winners at the Federation of Ogbagi Students Union (FOSU).
The competition, organised under the leadership of the FOSU President, Comrade Abu Sherif Gbenga, is aimed at promoting academic excellence, intellectual development and critical thinking among students of Ogbagi extraction.
This year’s edition was described by organisers as keenly contested and intellectually stimulating, offering participants the opportunity to showcase their creativity, analytical depth and writing skills. Although the exercise commenced earlier in the year, the award presentation ceremony was held yesterday.
The ceremony was personally conducted by the sponsor of the initiative, Hon. Thalis Olonite Apalowo, who presented prizes to the top three winners. Opeyemi Dorcas emerged first, followed by Arogundade Precious in second place, while Waliyat Abdulrasheed came third.
Speaking at the event, Apalowo reiterated his commitment to education and youth empowerment, stressing the role of knowledge in driving sustainable development.
“Education remains the strongest foundation for sustainable development. When we invest in our students today, we are securing a better and more responsible future for our society.”
In his remarks, the President of FOSU, Comrade Abu Sherif Gbenga, praised the sponsor for his consistency and dedication to youth development, describing the essay competition as a long-term investment in the future of Ogbagi students.
“Honourable Thalis Olonite Apalowo has continually demonstrated genuine commitment to the growth and preparedness of Ogbagi youths. This initiative goes beyond an essay competition; it is a deliberate investment in the future of our students,” he said.
The Thalis Olonite Apalowo Essay Competition has continued to gain recognition within the community for inspiring students toward academic excellence, leadership development and intellectual preparedness.
FOSU, on behalf of the beneficiaries and the wider student community, expressed appreciation to Apalowo for sustaining the initiative and wished him continued strength to further contribute to education and youth development.
