A Professor of Medical Microbiology and Public Health at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Prof. Festus Olajubu, is set to deliver the institution’s 54th inaugural lecture on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The lecture, titled “The Unwinnable War Against Antimicrobial Resistance: Nature to the Rescue,” will take place at the University Multipurpose Hall. The programme is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm, while guests are expected to be seated by 1:30pm.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Adebisi Daramola, disclosed in a statement that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the lecture.
Prof. Olajubu began his academic journey in 1987 when he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye, now Olabisi Onabanjo University. He later earned a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology from the same institution in 2000, before completing his PhD in Medical Microbiology and Public Health at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, in 2010.
He joined the services of Adekunle Ajasin University in 2011 as a Lecturer I in the Department of Microbiology and rose steadily through the academic ranks to attain the position of professor in 2020.
Within the university system, Prof. Olajubu has served in several key capacities, including Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Acting Head of the Department of Microbiology, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Science, Chairman of the Faculty of Science Quality Assurance Committee, Acting Director of the Industrial Training Unit, and Acting Director of Research and Development.
A seasoned scholar, he has contributed to two published books and authored over 50 research articles in reputable journals. He has also presented papers at numerous local and international conferences held in countries such as Canada, France, Germany, India, Malaysia and the United States.
Prof. Olajubu is a member of several professional bodies, including the American Society for Microbiology, Nigerian Society for Microbiology, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Nigerian Society for Microbial Ecology, Nigerian Biological Safety Association and the International Society for Infectious Diseases.
He is also a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science and the Nigerian Society of Microbial Ecology, an International Federation of Biological Associations Certified Professional, as well as a mentor under the American Society for Microbiology Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship.
Beyond the university, he serves as the South-West Coordinator of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association, a reviewer for several local and international journals, and an external assessor to a number of Nigerian universities.
In recognition of his academic and research contributions, Prof. Olajubu has received several awards and grants, including the National Award of Excellence from the Nigerian Association of Medical Scientists in 2019, a TETFund Institution-Based Research Grant in 2015, and various international travel grants from organisations such as the Europa Organization Africa, Keystone Symposia and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
