The African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State has accused a top national officer of actions capable of deepening internal divisions during its ongoing Membership Mobilisation, Revalidation and Registration exercise.
In a petition addressed to the party’s National Working Committee, stakeholders alleged that the Chairman of the MMRR Committee, Kashim Imam, interfered in the process in ways that contravened established guidelines and aggravated factional tensions.
The petitioners also accused Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani of working in concert with Imam to facilitate payments and obtain membership materials through channels they described as unofficial.
According to the document, the state’s Interim Transition Implementation Committee on February 10, 2026, transferred N50m from the chapter’s account to the party’s national secretariat account domiciled in SunTrust Bank, allegedly on Imam’s directive. It further claimed that an additional payment was later made by Binani after she was provided with account details.
The petition stated that following the inauguration of the state MMRR committee on February 12, the Adamawa chairman of the exercise, Omar Suleiman, received registrars and 50,000 membership cards approved by Imam, who reportedly pledged to release another batch after the commencement of registration.
However, the stakeholders alleged that the remaining cards were subsequently handed to Binani the next day without the knowledge of the state leadership. They claimed she undertook to deliver them to the state chairman through a supposed committee secretary, Peter Hardly, but that the materials had yet to be accounted for.
The petition described Imam as central to the crisis rocking the state chapter, accusing him of breaching party resolutions, constitutional provisions and his oath of office by actions that allegedly encouraged parallel tendencies within the party.
The aggrieved members urged the national leadership to compel strict compliance with laid-down procedures and halt any steps capable of undermining unity in the state chapter.
Efforts by the Adamawa ADC to stabilise its structure and expand membership ahead of future elections have been hampered by lingering disputes and leadership tussles.
As of the time of filing this report, the party’s national leadership had yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
