A former Vice President, , on Wednesday congratulated Christians and Muslims on the commencement of the Lenten season and the holy month of Ramadan.
Atiku, a chieftain of the and Waziri Adamawa, described the coincidence of both fasting periods beginning on the same day as significant for national unity and spiritual reflection.
In a statement released by his media office in Abuja, the former presidential candidate urged adherents of both faiths to embrace the seasons as periods of sacrifice, devotion, compassion and renewed commitment to God.
He noted that the commencement of Ramadan followed the announcement of the sighting of the moon by the President-General of the , , which signalled the start of the fasting period for Muslims across the country.
According to him, Ramadan offers an opportunity for increased piety, worship and self-discipline, while also encouraging empathy for the less privileged through acts of charity.
Atiku added that both Ramadan and Lent emphasise spiritual purification, self-restraint and compassion, urging well-meaning Nigerians to support the needy during the period.
He wished Christians and Muslims a fulfilling spiritual exercise and prayed for peace and harmony in the country.
