The African Union has appointed Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, as an Ambassador of the Pan-African Agenda 2063 initiative.
Shaibu was formally inducted into the Governing Council of the Pan-African African Union Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission at a ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday.
A statement issued by Atiku Abubakar’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, described Agenda 2063 as the AU’s long-term development blueprint aimed at driving inclusive growth, continental integration, democratic governance, peace and Pan-African values.
According to the statement, Shaibu’s appointment was conveyed in a letter dated November 18, 2025, and signed by the President of the Pan-African AU, Ambassador Stephen Gbatigbi Ben-Joel.
The letter said the nomination followed a review of Shaibu’s contributions to national development and his service under different political leaders in Nigeria, citing his background as an educationist, administrator and businessman.
It added that the Governing Council also named him an Ambassador Plenipotentiary, a position reserved for individuals considered to embody the ideals and vision of Agenda 2063.
Shaibu, a teacher, journalist and public relations expert, has nearly three decades of experience in media practice, public communication and crisis management.
