Suspected fighters of on Saturday launched a coordinated attack on a military formation in Garaha District, Hong Local Government Area of , killing three soldiers and a civilian woman while destroying public facilities, including a primary school.
Residents said the insurgents stormed the community at about 11 a.m. from multiple entry points, notably the Dabna and Lar axes, catching security operatives off guard despite reported resistance from troops.
An eyewitness, , said the assailants engaged soldiers in a fierce gun duel before overrunning the base and setting it ablaze.
“The soldiers were on alert and responded with gunfire to repel the attackers, but the camp was eventually overrun and burnt,” he said.
Yeriman added that the troops were ambushed from the rear through the Lar axis, an action that led to the death of three personnel, while a fleeing female resident was struck by a stray bullet.
Sources in the area also alleged that the attackers carted away weapons and an armoured vehicle from the facility before torching remaining structures.
“As we speak, no building is left standing in the military base except the ,” the cleric said, commending the soldiers for their bravery and urging Nigerians to support the military.
Another resident, who requested anonymity, described the incident as a well-coordinated assault and called for a thorough investigation, alleging possible sabotage after troops reportedly repelled the initial advance.
The source urged authorities to examine communications data from telecom operators, including , , and , to identify possible collaborators.
Residents said the exchange of gunfire lasted for nearly two hours, leaving the community and surrounding Huba area in mourning amid fears of renewed attacks.
The paramount ruler of the Huba Kingdom, , confirmed the incident and said details would be made public after preliminary assessments.
Attempts to obtain official confirmation from military authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The attack highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of Adamawa, where rural communities continue to experience insurgent violence despite sustained counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.
