Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, on Saturday described the restoration of the Huba Chiefdom as a milestone of “civilizational significance,” as he chaired activities marking the chiefdom’s first anniversary in Adamawa State.
Speaking at the grand finale held at the Hong Mini Township Stadium, Mustapha said the re-establishment of the chiefdom represented a historic recognition of the identity and heritage of the Huba people, also known as Kilba, whose traditional governance structures were disrupted during the colonial era.
He noted that the struggle for recognition endured for decades with patience and faith, stressing that the creation of the chiefdom went beyond administrative convenience to the restoration of institutional dignity and cultural pride.
Mustapha commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for approving the chiefdom in December 2024 as part of broader reforms that created new chiefdoms and emirates in the state. He said the decision corrected a long-standing imbalance and fulfilled the aspirations of the people after more than a century of agitation.
The former SGF also praised the paramount ruler, Alheri Bulus Nyako, for providing inclusive and stabilising leadership within the chiefdom’s first year, noting that traditional institutions remain critical to peacebuilding, conflict resolution and grassroots development.
He urged residents, stakeholders and members of the diaspora to consolidate unity and strengthen local institutions to ensure sustainable development, describing the anniversary as a moment to reflect on achievements and chart a path forward.
The celebration featured cultural displays, traditional processions, a mini durbar, thanksgiving services and the unveiling of a development plan for Hong Local Government Area.
Dignitaries at the event included traditional rulers, political leaders and community representatives, underscoring the renewed pride and developmental momentum following the restoration of the Huba Chiefdom.
