An 18-year-old housewife has fled after allegedly stabbing her husband during a domestic dispute in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, reportedly left the 25-year-old victim with a severe injury after he was attacked with a knife by his wife, identified as Khadija Jamilu.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the suspect escaped from the scene and is currently at large.
He said police operatives responded swiftly after the report was received and rushed the injured man to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum for emergency treatment.
According to him, the victim was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, where he is presently receiving medical care.
Abdulkarim added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect, while a full investigation had been launched into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Reacting to the incident, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act and described it as unacceptable.
The police commissioner stressed that marriage should be founded on mutual respect, patience and understanding, warning that it must never serve as a platform for violence, abuse or humiliation.
