The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of 10 suspected kidnappers and the recovery of ransom money during a security operation carried out in Akure, the state capital.
The development was made known on Tuesday in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the operation was conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation involving the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Police Mobile Force personnel deployed to Ondo State with the approval of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The statement explained that operatives acted on credible intelligence and stormed identified locations along Ondo Road on February 23, leading to the successful arrest of the suspects.
Recovered items included an operational motorcycle allegedly used by the group as well as ransom cash, some of which were partially burnt and have been preserved as exhibits for ongoing investigation.
Police authorities disclosed that the suspects had provided useful information to investigators, outlining their respective roles in the criminal network, while efforts were underway to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s determination to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with prompt and reliable information.
He further emphasised that effective security requires collective participation, encouraging communities to strengthen local vigilante structures and maintain close cooperation with law enforcement agencies to sustain peace and safety across the state.
