ICAN honours Bunmi Alade with Western Zone Ambassador Award

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has conferred its Western Zone Ambassador Award on Chief Bunmi Alade, MBA, FCTI, FCA, in recognition of his long-standing, selfless and outstanding contributions to the growth of the Institute in the zone.

The award was presented at the 2026 ICAN Western Zonal Conference held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Highpoint Event Centre, CBD Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. The event attracted accounting professionals, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the 61st President of ICAN, Mallam Haruna Yahaya, mni, PhD, FCA, praised Alade for his consistency, dedication and impactful service to the Institute over the years. He highlighted the various strategic positions Alade has held within the Western Zone, describing his contributions as invaluable to the Institute’s development.

Yahaya noted that Alade had also distinguished himself in public service, where his professionalism, integrity and commitment to excellence had remained exemplary. He described the honour as a fitting recognition of a lifetime of service and leadership within and beyond the accounting profession.

In his response, Alade described the award as unique and unprecedented, saying it had further motivated him to continue contributing meaningfully to the advancement of ICAN at both zonal and national levels.

He expressed appreciation to the ICAN leadership and council members for finding him worthy of the recognition and commended their efforts at sustaining high professional standards in Nigeria’s accounting sector.

Alade also acknowledged the support of the Institute’s benefactor, Sir Oluwatobi Abiola, mni, PhD, FCA, and Otunba Biodun Adedeji, FCA, whom he described as instrumental to the success of the Western Zone and the honour bestowed on him.

He lauded the leadership of the Western Zone, led by the Zone Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Semiu, FCA, and the Conference Chairman, Alhaji Kolawole Bisiriyu, PhD, FCA, as well as other principal officers, district chairmen and members of the zone.

The awardee further appreciated members of his primary constituency, the Akure and District Society, under the leadership of its chairman, Mr E. A. Oke, FCA, and the Chairman, Committee of Past Chairmen, Sir J. S. O. Adeniyi, FCA, for their unwavering support.

Alade recalled that his service to the Institute, including roles as Conference Director for five consecutive years, Conference Treasurer, Zonal Treasurer, Zonal Secretary and Conference Adviser, among others, provided him with opportunities to contribute to the growth of ICAN at the zonal level.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continue promoting the ideals of the Institute through service, integrity, professionalism and mentorship of younger members, while thanking friends, family members and colleagues who celebrated the achievement with him.
