Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Friday commissioned the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road in Oka-Akoko alongside a cluster of roads in Owo Local Government Area, reaffirming that road construction and rehabilitation remain central to his administration’s development agenda as it marks its first anniversary.
Describing the commissioning as a milestone in his one-year achievements, Aiyedatiwa thanked God for the progress recorded within a short period and pledged sustained efforts to deliver infrastructure that improves the welfare of Ondo residents.
The governor said the six-kilometre Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road is a multi-million-naira project, executed with quality materials to withstand heavy traffic, including commercial vehicles. He stressed the road’s strategic importance in Akoko, linking farms to markets and facilitating the movement of agricultural produce across and beyond the state.
Recalling the dualisation of the Akungba–Ikare Road flagged off last year, Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, as part of his broader infrastructural expansion in the axis.
In Owo, the governor commissioned Opomulero Road, Iselu, and Isuada Road in a triple commissioning exercise. He described the projects, spanning 3.5 kilometres, as critical to restoring hope, easing transportation, stimulating commerce, and reducing travel time in the town.
Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, assuring that no community would be left behind. He said the “OUR EASE” policy guides the government’s interventions in roads, education, healthcare, agriculture, and commerce, aimed at equitable development.
Through his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, the governor also commissioned the upgraded Primary Health Care (PHC) facility and newly constructed staff quarters in Owo, stressing that accessible and affordable healthcare remains a priority. He noted that 112 PHCs across the state are undergoing structured upgrades, with 51 already completed.
Earlier, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, described the commissioning as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to transforming infrastructure within the first year. He urged communities to safeguard the roads and prevent vandalism.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, praised initiatives such as transactional ambulances, solar-powered water systems, and staff quarters, while Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said it was unprecedented for a governor to provide housing for health workers.
Local government leaders and traditional rulers also commended the governor. Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government, Ayo Ajana, described the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road as evidence of purposeful leadership. Acting Chairman of Owo Local Government, Ibrahim Ahmed, noted that residents had doubted meaningful development after the demise of the former governor, but Aiyedatiwa had proven them wrong.
The Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, and the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, praised the governor for completing long-stalled projects, improving roads, and installing solar streetlights, noting that economic activities now extend into the night.
Other dignitaries at the event included Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Speaker Ondo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, Head of Service Mr. Bayo Philip, members of the State Executive Council, legislators, and traditional and religious leaders.
