Ondo police nab alleged serial rapist, robbery suspect in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a man, Olamipekun Elegbeleye, over alleged cases of rape and armed robbery in Akure, the state capital.

The arrest was announced in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

Police said the suspect allegedly attacked a female victim on November 21, 2025, after convincing her to board his motorcycle under the pretext of conveying her to Afunbiowo Housing Estate, Oke Aro.

According to the command, the suspect diverted into a bush, where he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint and robbed her of personal belongings.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly carried out similar attacks on four other women at the same location.

Operatives of the command, acting on intelligence and technical tracking, later arrested the suspect at his hideout in Akure.

Items recovered from him included mobile phones, SIM cards, ATM cards and clothing believed to belong to his victims, while police also linked him to unauthorised transfers from a victim’s bank account.

The police said the suspect has been charged to court and remanded at the Ondo State Correctional Centre, Akure, assuring residents of sustained efforts to curb sexual and violent crimes.
