An Abuja-based church, Holiness Revival Movement Worldwide, has expelled a newly married woman, identified as Oyiza, from its congregation over her alleged refusal to consummate her marriage with her husband, Isaac.
The couple, who resided in Ibadan, were joined in matrimony on September 6, 2025, after completing traditional marriage rites in Okene, Kogi State, followed by a court wedding in Ibadan.
Trouble reportedly began shortly after the wedding when the bride allegedly resisted her husband’s attempts at intimacy, insisting she did not love him and claiming she had been pressured into the marriage by her mother.
Sources familiar with the matter said repeated mediation efforts by both families and church leaders failed to resolve the dispute, as the woman allegedly maintained her position despite counselling sessions.
In a video shared on the church’s YouTube channel in February, the International Director of the ministry, Paul Rika, announced her expulsion after about five months of intervention attempts, accusing her of bringing disgrace to the church.
During the announcement, the cleric alleged that the woman was involved in spiritual misconduct and declared that she had been excommunicated from the congregation, while urging members to pray concerning the situation.
Speaking on the development, Isaac said his wife initially consented to the marriage after counselling by the church’s marriage committee, although she had earlier expressed doubts months before the ceremony.
He explained that despite renewed assurances before the wedding, the disagreement resurfaced almost immediately after the ceremony, with his wife allegedly insisting she had no emotional attachment to him and repeatedly declining intimacy.
The husband added that several counselling sessions involving church leaders and family members failed to resolve the crisis, noting that the situation left him emotionally distressed as efforts to salvage the marriage proved unsuccessful.
