A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Smart Omodunbi Jr., has declared his intention to contest the chairmanship of the party in the state.
Omodunbi made his intention known in a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure, saying his decision was driven by loyalty, experience and a deep understanding of the party’s structure, having been part of it since its formative years.u
According to him, he played active roles during the party’s foundation and has remained consistently involved in its development and internal processes.
“I have worked closely with virtually all the founding leaders of our great party. While some have passed on and others displaced by political changes, I have remained steadfast, bridging generations and tendencies within the party,” he said.
The chairmanship aspirant noted that his long-standing involvement positioned him to appreciate the party’s evolution and the direction it should take.
He stated that at a time when cohesion, discipline and strategic organisation were essential for electoral success, the party in the state required leadership that understood its roots and respected its stakeholders, while effectively managing internal dynamics without division.
Quoting the Holy Scripture, Omodunbi said, “If the foundation be destroyed, what shall the righteous do?”
He described his ambition as a commitment to protect and strengthen the party’s foundation through inclusive leadership, institutional stability and strategic engagement across all levels.
Omodunbi added that he was offering himself for service to consolidate the party’s achievements, rebuild confidence among members and position it for unity and victory in future elections.
