No fewer than 30 persons have been reportedly killed following a fresh attack by armed bandits on Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Sources in the community disclosed that the assailants stormed the village late on Thursday night, unleashing violence that left several residents dead, many others injured, while an unspecified number of villagers were abducted.

A resident, identified as Mallam Isah, said the attackers, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, blocked major access roads leading into the community before opening fire on fleeing residents around midnight.

According to him, bodies were discovered along the road leading into the village and within surrounding areas after the attackers retreated in the early hours of Friday.

“We counted not fewer than 30 corpses this morning, from the main road leading to Dutsin Ajiya village into the town,” the source said, expressing grief over the incident.

He added that several villagers sustained injuries during the attack, forcing many residents to abandon their homes for fear of further violence.

The source noted that women and children were seen fleeing to neighbouring communities, while panic and confusion gripped the area following the deadly assault.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful as calls to his telephone lines were not answered as of the time of filing this report.
