Two relatives of five women abducted by gunmen in Erinmope-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have been taken hostage after delivering a N10m ransom to the kidnappers.
The women were kidnapped on January 24, 2026, when armed men stormed the community and whisked away five victims, including a nursing mother and a pregnant woman nearing delivery.
The abductors were said to have initially demanded N100m for the release of the women but later agreed to accept N10m after negotiations with the family.
However, the family head, Alhaji Saliu Okanlawon, told journalists on Monday that the agreement was breached after the ransom was handed over.
He said the money was delivered last Friday at Orun-Ago, Omu-Aran, after which the two family members who brought the cash were detained by the kidnappers.
According to him, the emissaries were later moved to Idofin in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, worsening the family’s ordeal.
Okanlawon said the kidnappers claimed the N10m was inadequate and had now reverted to their original demand of N100m before releasing all seven captives.
He identified the abducted women as Kehinde Mahmud, Adijat Hussein, Hawawu Suleiman and two others named Fatima, while the detained ransom bearers were Ibrahim Soliu and Mohammad Soliu.
Appealing for help, he urged the Ekiti State Government and relevant authorities to intervene urgently, noting that one of the victims was nine months pregnant and facing severe trauma in captivity.
