The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday cautioned second-term governors and other political leaders against supporting what he described as betrayal, warning that such actions would eventually rebound on them.
Wike issued the warning while commissioning the headquarters of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Port Harcourt, where he spoke pointedly to governors in their final terms, federal lawmakers and other political actors.
The former Rivers State governor said anyone who aligns with disloyal politicians would ultimately suffer the same fate, insisting that betrayal attracts consequences that cannot be avoided.
According to him, political treachery has a way of returning to its sponsors, adding that those who encourage it would one day be left helpless when it turns against them.
“Today is February 7. Whoever you are — senator, House of Representatives member, minister or governor — if you support betrayers, betrayal will continue to follow you in life,” Wike said.
He added that such leaders would be unable to complain when they eventually fall victim to the same conduct they once encouraged, describing it as a harvest of seeds already sown.
Drawing from his fallout with his successor in Rivers State, Wike said governors in their second term who back betrayal while planning to install successors would face rebellion even faster than he did.
“Watch any second-term governor who wants to bring in a successor while supporting a betrayer; you will not survive it. My own took some months, but yours will start immediately,” he said, claiming the warning was a message he was compelled to deliver.
Wike stressed that loyalty in politics goes beyond strategy, describing it as a moral and spiritual obligation, and warned that betrayal would trail those who disregard it wherever they go.
He added that the facilities commissioned, including a radio station and a situation room, would strengthen support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, contrasting them with politicians he accused of disloyalty.
