A prominent All Progressives Congress chieftain and former federal lawmaker, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Adamawa State governorship election, using a lavish Iftar dinner in Abuja to announce his ambition to friends, family, political associates, and key stakeholders.

The declaration was made at Sinoki Restaurant in Abuja during the ongoing Ramadan fast, where Namdas gathered influential figures to formally communicate the gubernatorial bid he had first pursued in the 2023 election.

Expressing gratitude to attendees who honoured his invitation on short notice, Namdas said: “I sincerely appreciate your presence here today. I do not take this for granted and truly appreciate your commitment from the bottom of my heart.”

The former lawmaker, who represented the Mayo Belwa/Toungo/Jada/Ganye federal constituency for two terms in the House of Representatives, said recent consultations with Abuja stakeholders had been “collaborative, insightful, and engaging.”

Drawing on his background as a media practitioner and expert in security and strategic affairs, Namdas declared his readiness to lead, praising Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s achievements in infrastructure, welfare, education, health, and sports — gains he said President Bola Tinubu had recently commended during project commissions in the state.

“I believe a capable leader is needed to consolidate these gains and further advance progress in other sectors such as agriculture, rural development, and security,” he stated.

Namdas highlighted Adamawa’s vast mineral deposits, including gypsum, limestone, magnesite, kaolin, and bentonite, found across Gombi, Guyuk, Numan, Lamurde, Ganye, and Yola South, describing these resources alongside the state’s agricultural strengths in cash crops, food crops, and livestock as key drivers of his bid.

The former lawmaker, who served as deputy governorship candidate on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria in 2011, noted his long-standing ties with President Tinubu dating back to the ACN era through the APC merger and his years in the legislature.

Reaffirming alignment with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, he said: “As an appointee of the President and someone well-versed in his Renewed Hope Agenda, I sincerely believe I can lead Adamawa State to the utmost satisfaction of both its people and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Namdas also pledged to foster strong working relations with the Adamawa State House of Assembly, mirroring the incumbent governor’s approach and the President’s relationship with the National Assembly.

His entry into the race signals an early and strategic move in what is expected to be a competitive 2027 APC governorship contest in Adamawa State.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
