The Christ Apostolic Church, Nigeria and Overseas, has announced the death of its former President, Pastor Abraham Olukunle Akinosun, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 81.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the church’s General Secretary, Pastor E. E. Mapur, who said the cleric died on March 22, 2026.
Akinosun, who served as the seventh President of the church between 2012 and 2020, was described as a committed servant of God and an accomplished administrator whose leadership was marked by spiritual growth and organisational development.
According to the statement, the late cleric led the church with dedication and humility until he attained the mandatory retirement age of 75 in 2020, leaving behind a legacy of doctrinal discipline and evangelical zeal.
Born on February 27, 1945, Akinosun began his early education between 1955 and 1960 before training as a plumber under the Ibadan City Works from 1962 to 1965. He later worked with notable firms, including Drake and Scull Limited, Julius Berger, G. Cappa, and Italcom.
He was called into ministry in 1972 and subsequently attended the CAC Bible Training College between 1973 and 1975. He served in various capacities, including as a catechist in Oja-Odan and later at CAC Yaba, before travelling to Europe in 1978 for further theological studies in countries such as Germany, Sweden, and Belgium.
While in Belgium, he obtained a degree in Biblical Studies from the Continental Theological Seminary.
He was ordained as a pastor in 1981 and went on to serve in several leadership roles, including lecturer at the CAC Theological Seminary in Ile-Ife and pastorates in Ibadan and other locations.
The late cleric rose through the ranks to become District Superintendent in 1991 and later Chairman of CAC Osogbo District Coordinating Council in 2000. He was appointed General Superintendent of the church in 2010 and later became President in 2012, a position he held until his retirement.
Akinosun was also a prolific author, with 12 published books to his credit, including titles on pastoral theology and Christian teachings.
In recognition of his contributions to society, he was conferred with the title of Justice of the Peace by the Osun State Government in 2002 and served as Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Osun State chapter, from 2002 to 2010.
The church said further details regarding his burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
