Residents of Owatowose area in Owo have been thrown into mourning following the alleged killing of an 18-year-old boy, Amos Timilehin Ariyo, who was reportedly stabbed to death by a close friend.
The incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday along a roadside in the community, left residents shocked and devastated.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was allegedly attacked by the suspect, identified as Johnson Daniel, who reportedly stabbed him in the chest without any known provocation before fleeing the scene.
Family sources told The Hope that Amos had only recently recovered from a fever and was on his way from his mother’s residence to her nearby shop when the suspect approached him.
Residents said the two boys were known to be close friends and were often seen together in the neighbourhood. According to them, nothing appeared unusual as they were seen walking together shortly before the tragic incident.
It was gathered that the calm atmosphere in the area turned chaotic moments later when the victim reportedly screamed in pain and collapsed after he was stabbed, while the suspect allegedly fled immediately after the attack.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Owo, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident and the arrest of a suspect.
He said, “The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the alleged murder of Ariyo Amos Timilehin following a violent altercation in Owo on March 6, 2026.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was allegedly stabbed during an argument by one Johnson Daniel. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
“Police detectives visited the scene and recovered the knife suspected to have been used in the attack, while the suspect has been arrested. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.”
Jimoh added that the command commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to shun violence in resolving disputes, noting that further updates would be provided as investigation progresses.
