The Girlchild TotalCare Foundation, in collaboration with the Loveworld Ladies Network of Christ Embassy, has commemorated the 2026 International Women’s Day with a community outreach aimed at empowering women and young girls in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The event, held at the Sanngo Police Barracks, featured empowerment talks, skills training and the distribution of relief materials to participants.
Speaking during the programme, the convener of the foundation, Ayobami Akin-Desmond, said the event was organised in line with the 2026 IWD theme, “Give to Gain,” urging women to build their capacities so they can contribute meaningfully to their homes and society.
According to her, women play critical roles in supporting families and communities and should not remain passive in matters that affect their wellbeing and development
She encouraged participants to acquire skills, support their families financially where possible and create a peaceful environment at home.
“Women were created to be a blessing to their homes and society. When you give—through service, support and empowerment—you gain respect, confidence and multiplied support in return,” she said.
Also speaking, Tinuola, a deaconess from Christ Embassy Ibadan Zone 1, urged women to cultivate a positive mindset and see themselves as agents of change in their communities.
She encouraged them not to limit their aspirations but to seek opportunities that would improve their homes and the wider society, while also stressing the importance of investing in the education of the girl child.
Similarly, legal practitioner Joan Kehinde advised women to avoid being manipulated for political interests, urging them instead to support initiatives that promote peace and sustainable development in society.
As part of the empowerment programme, participants were trained in practical skills such as the production of liquid soap, disinfectants and air fresheners.
Children at the event were also engaged in motivational sessions where they were encouraged to dream big and become responsible ambassadors of their communities.
The organisers also distributed several items to participants, including soap-making materials, sanitary towels, storybooks, writing materials and crayons.
