The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday said it had arrested three suspects in connection with a kidnapping incident captured on Closed-Circuit Television in Oda area of Akure, the state capital.
The police also confirmed the rescue of three victims abducted by the suspects.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the arrests followed the circulation of CCTV footage on social media showing the abduction of a victim in the area.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, ordered the immediate deployment of intelligence assets after the footage surfaced.
“The Command swiftly activated its intelligence team, leveraging digital surveillance analysis and coordinated field operations to identify and apprehend the suspects,” the statement read.
Operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad subsequently carried out targeted operations based on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of one suspect, whose confession resulted in the apprehension of two other accomplices.
The police identified the suspects as Mohammed Koro, 27; Muhammad Usman, 30; and Musa Alhaji, 23, noting that preliminary investigations indicated they played different roles in the alleged crime.
The Command disclosed that three victims—Tosin Adesida, Adeniran Adesuyi and Adewunmi Adewusi—were rescued during the operation.
It added that the victims had been debriefed and taken to hospital for medical attention.
The statement further noted that the suspects had made confessional statements and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
Reiterating the Command’s resolve to tackle crime, Lawal warned that the state would not be a safe haven for criminals, stressing that offenders would be tracked and prosecuted.
He also assured residents of the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
The police advised residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, noting that proactive measures had been put in place to curb criminal activities across the state.
