A 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, has been banished from Ohatekwe Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State for allegedly killing his mother.
The tragic incident, which reportedly occurred over the weekend, has left the community in mourning following the death of the woman, identified as Onyemaechi.
According to local sources, Oforbuike reportedly attacked his mother with a machete after a domestic dispute and fled into a nearby forest.
Community youths quickly mobilised to search for him, eventually tracking him down and taking him into custody.
After his arrest, the suspect was paraded through the village before being formally banished, with warnings that he must not return.
In a video that has circulated online, Oforbuike reportedly confessed, saying he committed the act because his mother refused to bathe him and declined to provide financial support for his brother’s barbing business.
“I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also would not fund my brother’s barbing shop after his apprenticeship,” he was quoted saying.
The local councillor, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the incident, stating that over 200 youths participated in apprehending the suspect, who has now been handed over to police for further investigation.
The deceased’s remains have been taken to a morgue.
