Veteran Nigerian actor, Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known for his longstanding role as Papa Ajasco, has announced a rebranding of his public persona.
The entertainer disclosed this in a video shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, where he introduced his new stage name as Bondu Alaska.
The development comes amid recent controversies surrounding his financial status and a public disagreement with Wale Adenuga, founder of Wale Adenuga Productions, over the use of the “Papa Ajasco” brand.
In the viral clip, Ayoyinka addressed Nigerians, declaring his new identity. He also expressed appreciation for the support he received following a recent interview that drew widespread attention.
He said he was embracing a fresh chapter in his career and assured fans of his commitment not to disappoint them.
As part of the transition, the actor has updated his social media presence, changing his Instagram handle to reflect the new name, while urging fans and potential business partners to engage with him under the Bondu Alaska brand.
However, the rebranding has been met with mixed reactions, with many fans expressing reluctance to detach from the popular Papa Ajasco identity that brought him fame.
Some followers, who reacted in the comment section, insisted that the veteran actor remains synonymous with the character, while others made light-hearted remarks referencing the enduring popularity of the brand.
The move is widely seen as a response to limitations surrounding the use of the Papa Ajasco name.
Meanwhile, Adenuga had earlier dismissed Ayoyinka’s claim of financial hardship as inaccurate, noting that the actor had benefitted from several incentives over the years, including the provision of vehicles.
He also maintained that while the Papa Ajasco brand must be safeguarded from misuse, actors associated with the production were not restricted from pursuing independent engagements outside the series.
