Residents of Karim II State Constituency in Taraba State have intensified calls on Muneerah Garba Umar (UTC), daughter of a former Governor and Acting Governor of the state, to contest for a seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly.
The calls, which are said to be coming from community leaders, youth organisations and women groups across the constituency, are driven by what supporters describe as the need for credible leadership, inclusive governance and accelerated grassroots development.
Several stakeholders in the constituency said Umar possesses the qualities required to effectively represent the people at the state legislature, citing her compassion, leadership capacity and commitment to community service.
According to some residents, Umar has over the years demonstrated concern for vulnerable members of society through quiet philanthropic activities that have supported widows, youths and struggling families.
A community member, who spoke on the development, said, “She has been supporting people silently for years. Not everything has to be on social media. We know what she has done for widows, youth and struggling families.”
Supporters also noted that her background and exposure to governance through her family’s leadership experience could place her in a strong position to attract development projects to the constituency.
Women groups within Karim II have also expressed optimism that her potential candidacy would promote greater gender inclusion and strengthen initiatives aimed at empowering women and improving the welfare of children, particularly in rural communities.
Political observers in the state say the growing appeal for Umar to join the race reflects an emerging preference among voters, especially young people, for leaders perceived to possess integrity, humility and a demonstrable commitment to public service.
Although Umar has yet to publicly respond to the appeals, the calls for her to contest continue to gather momentum across the constituency.
With the 2027 political season gradually approaching, attention is increasingly turning to Karim II, where residents appear eager to encourage leadership they believe will effectively represent their interests and aspirations.
