As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum, a group of concerned citizens from Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State has called on Governor Uba Sani to support a unifying and people-oriented candidate capable of strengthening the All Progressives Congress’ chances in the area.
In an open letter addressed to the governor, the group emphasised the need for strategic and inclusive leadership to ensure unity and electoral success for the ruling party in Lere, particularly in the Lere West constituency.
The letter, titled “Lere 2027: A Call for Strategic, Inclusive and People-Centred Leadership for Sustainable Unity and APC Success,” described Lere as one of the most diverse local government areas in Kaduna State, noting that its complex social structure requires a leader with the capacity to manage its delicate ethnic and religious balance.
According to the group, the area is home to several ethnic nationalities including Kurama, Hausa, Fulani, Gure, Amo, Piti, Kahugu, Dingi and Janji, among others, making inclusiveness and political sensitivity essential for effective leadership.
The citizens also pointed to what they described as the APC’s historical challenges in securing consistent electoral victories in the area, stressing that broader community acceptance would be key to reversing the trend in future elections.
They therefore presented a prominent community figure and philanthropist, Tom Garba, as a suitable candidate to represent Lere West in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The group stated that Garba possesses the qualities required to strengthen the party’s support base and foster unity across the eleven wards of the local government area.
They highlighted his philanthropic activities through the Tom Garba Foundation, noting that the organisation had provided scholarships, humanitarian assistance and community projects benefiting residents across Lere, irrespective of political or sectional interests.
According to the signatories, Garba’s reputation for religious and ethnic inclusiveness has also endeared him to many residents of the area.
They added that his grassroots popularity, coupled with his community development initiatives and strong engagement with young people, had earned him widespread respect within the local government.
The letter further described his potential candidacy as a strategic opportunity for the APC to secure stronger electoral support in the constituency while reducing political tension and opposition influence.
The appeal, according to the group, reflects the aspirations of many residents who are seeking leadership capable of promoting unity and development in the area.
The citizens also urged Governor Sani, whose administration has consistently emphasised inclusive governance and development, to consider their recommendation as the party prepares for future electoral contests.
They expressed optimism that supporting a broadly accepted candidate would strengthen the APC’s political standing in Lere and contribute to sustained peace and progress in the local government area.
