An 18-year-old man identified as Tope, has been remanded by an Iwaro-Oka Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over the alleged theft of an iron gate belonging to a church in Oka-Akoko.
The defendant was arraigned before Chief Magistrate B.A. Ikusika on a two-count charge bordering on theft and destruction of property.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on February 17, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m. at St. John Anglican Church located in Agba Quarters, Oka-Akoko, where the accused allegedly removed the gate valued at N300,000.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ajiboye Babatunde, told the court that the defendant also allegedly damaged an electric wire connected to a pumping machine, estimated to cost N350,000.
Police said the alleged offences contravened Section 410 and are punishable under Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Counsel to the defendant, R.M. Daodu, appealed to the court to grant his client bail, assuring that he would not jump trial if released.
However, Magistrate Ikusika ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody and adjourned the matter until March 18, 2026, for further hearing.
