A grand reception held in honour of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on his formal defection to the All Progressives Congress drew a massive crowd to Ribadu Square on Monday, underscoring a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
The event, which attracted party faithful, political stakeholders, youth groups and supporters from across the state and beyond, was largely seen as a strategic move to align Adamawa with the ruling party at the national level.
Amid the celebrations, however, the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Tijjani Ahmad Galadima, emerged as the cynosure of all eyes, drawing sustained chants of “Next Governor” from sections of the crowd.
The venue was awash in the green and white colours of the APC as supporters hailed the governor’s decision, describing it as a pathway to enhanced federal presence and development opportunities under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While several speakers took turns to commend Fintiri’s leadership and the seamless integration of his political structure into the APC, the atmosphere shifted repeatedly each time Galadima was sighted.
Supporters, many wielding placards with inscriptions such as “TG-2027: The People’s Choice” and “Power Shift to Central – Galadima Now,” broke into spontaneous chants, further fuelling speculations about his possible ambition for the 2027 governorship race.
The chants reportedly grew louder at intervals during the programme, particularly as the PTDF boss interacted with dignitaries and party leaders.
Galadima, a technocrat with extensive experience in the oil and gas sector and public service, has in recent weeks gained increasing support from youth groups and political blocs advocating a power shift to the Adamawa Central Senatorial District.
Although he has yet to formally declare his intention, his rising profile has continued to generate conversations across the state’s political space.
In his remarks, Fintiri emphasised unity and collective progress, reiterating his administration’s commitment to the development of Adamawa and the well-being of its people.
Monday’s event, beyond marking the governor’s political realignment, also signposted emerging dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections, with Galadima’s reception by the crowd suggesting a growing momentum that could shape the state’s next governorship contest
