The management of the , Okitipupa, , has responded to the ongoing dispute between the institution’s Governing Council and the Joint Action Congress over a planned seven-day protest.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Abiodun Peter Okunniga, the university said it had taken note of recent media reports on the planned protest by the Joint Action Congress.
The statement explained that the dispute centres on two major issues raised by the union.
According to the management, the first issue concerns the non-approval of two members of the Joint Action Congress for promotion to the rank of directors by the Governing Council.
The management disclosed that the union had written a letter of appeal to the council on the matter, accompanied by a seven-day ultimatum.
However, it said the Governing Council directed that the letter of appeal be properly routed through the Vice-Chancellor, a procedure it noted had yet to be complied with by the union.
“The council directed JAC to route the letter of appeal through the Vice-Chancellor, which has not been complied with,” the statement said.
On the second issue regarding the tenure of the Pro-Chancellor, the management stated that the determination of such matters rests solely with the Visitor to the university.
The institution added that the Governing Council would soon meet to deliberate on the issues raised and take appropriate decisions.
“The council is meeting very soon to resolve these issues,” the statement added.
