The Ondo State Police Command has intensified security oversight at religious centres across the state in a renewed effort to enhance public safety and prevent potential threats.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, led a statewide inspection on March 1, 2026, visiting selected worship facilities to evaluate existing security arrangements and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
The development was made known in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who explained that the exercise was in line with the state government’s 2022 Executive Order requiring the installation of surveillance cameras in public and religious environments.
During the exercise, the police boss visited several prominent centres, including NASFAT Central Mosque in Akure, St. Stephen Anglican Church in Ipele, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ijebu-Owo, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Owo, Ansarudeen Central Mosque in Owo, and the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, among others.
Lawal advised religious leaders to strengthen internal security protocols by ensuring proper screening at entry points and installing operational CCTV systems capable of supporting monitoring and intelligence gathering.
He also appealed to residents of the state to work closely with security agencies by providing useful and timely information, stressing that effective security depends on cooperation between the public and law enforcement.
The commissioner further instructed officers stationed at worship centres to remain alert and professional in carrying out their duties, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining order throughout Ondo State.
