The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has begun the distribution of Ramadan relief materials to residents across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State to cushion the impact of economic hardship during the fasting period.
The initiative commenced in Owo Local Government Area, where the Chief Imam of Owo, Sheikh Yunus Anola, commended the minister for the gesture and offered prayers for his continued success in office.
Coordinator of the distribution exercise, Musibau Ekunnusi, said the intervention was in line with efforts to support citizens during significant religious periods, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges.
Also speaking, the Chief Imam of Supare Akoko, Alhaji Abdul Rasheed Akindele, noted that Tunji-Ojo had sustained the Ramadan palliative programme since assuming office in 2023, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of the people.
The distribution, which began on March 4, 2026, covered several communities including Akungba Akoko, Supare Akoko, Oba Akoko, Oka Akoko, Epinmi Akoko, Ifira Akoko, Ipe Akoko, as well as Ifon in Ose Local Government Area and parts of Owo.
Tunji-Ojo urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items and called on religious leaders to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution process. He also encouraged citizens to continue to pray for Nigeria’s peace, stability and unity.
Relief materials distributed include bags of rice, maize, guinea corn and cash support aimed at assisting families during the Ramadan period.
The distribution committee later extended the exercise to communities in the southern and central parts of the state, including Ondo East, Ondo West, Ileoluji/Okeigbo, Ifedoro, Odigbo, Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje and Ese-Odo, where religious leaders expressed appreciation and prayed for the minister.
