A leading aspirant of the All Progressives Congress for the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwafemi Fadairo, has sought the backing of traditional rulers in Akure North Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fadairo made the appeal during a meeting with monarchs in the council area on Friday, where he emphasised the need to pay homage to royal fathers, describing traditional institutions as key stakeholders in community development and political stability.
The former Director of Administration at the Senate and immediate past Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Community Engagement (Central) said his ambition was driven by a desire to facilitate development and improve the welfare of constituents through effective representation.
“Our revered royal fathers, I have come to seek your support as custodians of our communities. I am your son, and I aspire to represent Akure North and Akure South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly,” he said.
Fadairo added that he remained committed to service, noting that he would rely on the prayers, guidance and blessings of the monarchs as consultations continue ahead of the polls.
He further pledged to run an inclusive campaign centred on youth empowerment, infrastructure development and improved access to basic services.
“I am ready to prioritise solutions to the challenges facing our constituency, including infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment, women empowerment, inadequate healthcare, poor road networks and limited access to quality education. I will also facilitate federal opportunities for our people if elected,” he said.
The APC aspirant also lauded the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, noting that the state had recorded notable progress and required continuity in line with the current leadership’s development agenda.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Olumafon of Imafo, Oba Samuel Adegbehingbe, commended Fadairo for respecting traditional institutions and urged him to conduct his political activities peacefully and in accordance with due process.
Adegbehingbe, who declared the support of Akure North traditional rulers for the aspirant, advised him to remain accessible to community leaders and uphold the confidence reposed in him if elected.
“We are aware of your track record and contributions to the development of Akure. However, you must not forget your roots when you get to the National Assembly,” he said.
Also speaking, the Ojogbariaaka of Ilado, Oba Johnson Kayode Ajomole, stressed the need for unity in Akure, noting that the monarchs would support any candidate with genuine intentions to serve the people.
“Akure is one. We will support any son of the soil who is ready to serve diligently. Your achievements are commendable, but you must ensure inclusiveness across the constituency,” he said.
He also urged the aspirant to address insecurity in Akure land and adopt an issue-based campaign approach.
Other monarchs present at the meeting included the Asakin of Aboasakin, Oba Sunday Adebayo; the Obalogun of Igoba, Oba John Adilewa; the Ori-Ade of Alayere, Oba Alatoyinbo Adeniran; and the Iresi of Osi, Oba David Olajide Okunato, among others.
