The Ondo State Government has handed over 70 motorcycles to livestock extension officers and lead farmers to boost agricultural service delivery across the state.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa inaugurated the distribution in Akure on Thursday, describing the move as part of efforts to enhance food security and increase agricultural output.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Segun Omojuwa, the governor said agriculture remains a cornerstone of the state’s economy and requires effective support to flourish.
He emphasized the importance of extension services in connecting government policies with farmers, especially in rural communities.
Aiyedatiwa noted that mobility challenges had long restricted extension officers from reaching remote areas, adding that the motorcycles would improve their access and responsiveness.
The governor said the equipment would allow officers to cover more communities, offer timely guidance on modern farming techniques, and strengthen livestock management.
He praised the Livestock Productivity Resilience Support (L-PRES) project and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for their contributions to the initiative.
Beneficiaries were advised to use the motorcycles solely for official duties, with the governor stressing that the programme’s success depends on their proper use and dedication.
