A political storm is brewing in the Oyo State House of Assembly following allegations of a plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.
What began as speculation has escalated into a major controversy, drawing attention from the All Progressives Congress, which is said to be closely monitoring developments.
At the centre of the unfolding situation is a reported meeting held at the governor’s residence, where lawmakers allegedly gathered amid concerns over moves capable of straining relations between the executive and legislative arms.
In the wake of the meeting, members of the Assembly have begun to declare their positions publicly.
While some lawmakers have dismissed the impeachment claims, others have remained silent, fuelling suspicions of internal divisions within the legislature.
The Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, described the allegation as baseless, attributing it to attempts by mischief-makers to destabilise the state.
Similarly, the Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, denied any involvement, reaffirming his loyalty to the governor.
In a statement, Oyekola distanced himself from any alleged impeachment arrangement, insisting he was neither invited nor part of such discussions.

He also alleged that certain interests were working to create discord within the Assembly and undermine the existing relationship between the legislature and the executive.
The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to Makinde’s administration, pledging continued support for the government’s agenda.
Oyekola further revealed that the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, had allegedly been approached by influential figures over his political future, including offers said to involve financial inducements, which he reportedly rejected.
Observers noted that while several lawmakers have openly aligned with the governor, the silence of others suggests possible underlying tensions yet to fully emerge.
The situation has also revived earlier warnings by former governor Ayodele Fayose about potential political instability in the state.
Meanwhile, prominent figures mentioned in the unfolding developments include the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, who has denied any involvement, while Florence Ajimobi had yet to comment as of the time of filing this report.
With more lawmakers expected to speak on the matter, political watchers say the coming days will be critical in determining the direction of the Assembly crisis.
