A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has outlined new requirements for accepting Dr Wole Oluyede as its flagbearer for the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
The group, which is aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, disclosed its stance on Friday at a media briefing in Ado Ekiti.
Speaking at the event, the factional chairman, Lanre Omolase, insisted that his leadership remained the legitimate structure of the party in the state based on court decisions and a validated congress.
He noted that Oluyede had yet to be officially accepted as the party’s governorship candidate under the recognised leadership.
Omolase said, “We want to make it clear to Nigerians and Ekiti residents that Dr Oluwole Oluyede is still operating with the Turaki-led group, which has been barred from acting as the PDP’s national leadership.”
Oluyede had emerged from the faction led by Taminu Turaki and reportedly secured a favourable judgment from the Court of Appeal affirming his candidacy.
There were also reports that he recently held talks with Wike in Abuja, a move his supporters believe could help resolve internal disputes within the party.
His campaign team, through its spokesperson Idowu Adelusi, described the meeting as a step towards strengthening unity ahead of the election.
Omolase, however, stressed that Oluyede must formally align with the recognised party leadership and structure before he can be considered, adding, “He must fully submit to the party’s constitution and integrate his supporters from the grassroots to the state level.”
