El-Rufai appears in court, speaks on ADC convention

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, was present at the Kaduna State High Court on Monday as his trial resumed in a case instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

El-Rufai is being prosecuted alongside Amadu Sule over allegations that include abuse of office, fraud, and related infractions.

Before proceedings commenced, the former governor was heard discussing the upcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress with an associate.

“Isn’t our convention scheduled for tomorrow?” he asked, with the associate responding, “By God’s grace,” suggesting his continued engagement in political activities.

The ongoing trial at the state high court is one of multiple legal matters involving the former governor.

He is also facing a separate 10-count charge before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, bordering on alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and abuse of office.

The charges in the federal case involve sums reportedly amounting to N579.6 million and $1.1 million.

A hearing on his bail application in that matter has been fixed for April 14.

The ICPC is handling the prosecution in both cases as investigations into the allegations continue.

More updates are expected as court proceedings progress.
