A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, has revealed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is gearing up to contest the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
Makarfi, a close associate of the former governor, made the disclosure on Tuesday while speaking with journalists shortly after El-Rufai’s court appearance.
According to him, “His excellency president Bola Ahmed will hand over to his excellency Mallam Nasir el Rufai 2027 May and the journey has started.”
El-Rufai is currently facing prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over allegations of corruption linked to his tenure as Kaduna State governor. He remains in detention as proceedings in the case continue.
