A former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development in Gombe State, Muhammad Gambo Magaji, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Magaji, who recently exited the cabinet of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, conveyed his ambition in a letter addressed to the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, declaring his plan to seek the party’s ticket.
In the correspondence, the former commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to public service and the advancement of Gombe State, describing his decision as a continuation of his contributions to governance.
His declaration followed his valedictory remarks after leaving office, where he signalled readiness to serve the state in higher capacity.
Magaji, widely regarded as a technocrat, was credited with driving fiscal reforms during his tenure. His time in office saw efforts to strengthen financial discipline, improve budget transparency and implement economic policies aimed at stabilising the state’s finances.
Observers noted that his role in managing the state’s economy positioned Gombe among reform-oriented states, a development many analysts believe could bolster his credentials for the governorship race.
Speaking on his aspiration, the APC chieftain expressed confidence in his experience, stating that the economic gains recorded under the present administration provide a foundation for further growth.
He pledged to consolidate on existing achievements while introducing policies targeted at job creation, infrastructural expansion and accelerated economic development.
Political analysts said his entry into the race could alter the dynamics within the ruling party, where he is considered a loyal figure with significant influence.
They added that his alignment with the current administration and his track record in public finance may place him among the leading contenders as the contest gradually gathers momentum.
The 2027 governorship election in Gombe is expected to draw keen interest, with early political realignments already taking shape. Key issues such as continuity in governance, economic management and leadership direction are likely to dominate campaigns as the build-up to the polls intensifies.
