Suspected kidnappers have attacked a commercial bus belonging to GUO Transport along the Ore–Benin expressway, killing the driver and abducting several passengers.
The incident, which occurred on a busy stretch of the highway linking the South-West and South-South regions, has heightened concerns over rising insecurity on major Nigerian roads.
Sources said the assailants ambushed the east-bound vehicle and opened fire, killing the driver on the spot before taking the passengers to an unknown location.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the victims were forced into nearby forests, a method commonly associated with kidnapping gangs operating along the corridor.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the attack. However, local sources and a viral video suggested that multiple passengers were involved in the abduction.
The Ore–Benin expressway has, in recent years, gained notoriety for frequent cases of armed robbery and kidnappings, with several victims released only after payment of ransom.
