Trouble has finally caught up with a Niger State grandfather after scientific evidence confirmed that he is responsible for the pregnancy of his own teenage granddaughter, leading to his arrest and detention by the police.
The suspect, Musa Gado, now faces criminal prosecution after a DNA test conducted during police investigations returned results linking him to the baby boy delivered by the 16-year-old victim, who is his biological granddaughter.
Sources familiar with the matter told PUNCH Metro that the abuse came to light after the girl’s condition could no longer be hidden. By the time the case was formally reported, she was already carrying a six-month pregnancy.
Attempts to bury the scandal did not succeed. The grandfather had allegedly leaned on the teenager to end the pregnancy through self-administered drugs and injections, but none of the attempts worked, and the baby survived.
Her father, Lawali Baba, eventually stepped forward alongside the local ward head to present the matter before the Child Rights Protection and Enforcement Agency on October 5, 2025, setting the wheels of justice in motion.
From that point, the agency took charge of the girl’s welfare, sheltering her within its facility and ensuring she received proper medical attention throughout the remainder of her pregnancy until she put to bed.
The agency’s Director-General, Barrister Uma Mohammed, confirmed to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the teenage mother and her infant remained under institutional care while both the agency and the police continued to process the case.
“Musa Gado is currently in custody undergoing investigation,” Mohammed stated, adding that prosecution would follow once the police concluded their work.
