Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has alleged that his former deputy, Aminu Abdussalam, made moves to remove him from office in a bid to take over the state leadership.
The governor made the claim while receiving a delegation of praise singers, Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida, at the Government House in Kano.
Abdussalam, widely known as Gwarzo, had earlier stepped down from his position following an impeachment process initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly. The lawmakers later dropped the proceedings after his resignation.
Addressing the visitors, Yusuf said he had not been officially notified of his former deputy’s resignation, noting that he had yet to sight any letter to that effect. He insisted that there was no wrongdoing on the part of his administration to justify such a decision.
“Today, the deputy governor elected with us is no longer part of this government. No one offended him. Up till now, I have not seen any resignation letter from him, so there is no reason for concern,” he said.
The governor further alleged that Abdussalam’s actions were linked to an unsuccessful attempt to force him out of office and assume control of the state.
“What led to his actions was an effort to push me out and take over the seat, but that plan did not materialise,” Yusuf added.
He also expressed reservations over how the former deputy was treated within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, questioning why he was allegedly denied the opportunity he sought.
“The deputy governor who left in search of a ticket—what was his offence? Why was he not considered? Is that fair?” the governor queried.
