The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest of some of its personnel involved in a confrontation with soldiers during the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Bayelsa State.
The incident, which has attracted widespread attention on social media, was captured in a short video showing uniformed officers engaged in a heated altercation in public view.
In the footage, a driver of a vehicle marked “Naval Police” was seen stepping out to confront another driver. The situation escalated moments later when a soldier approached and struck the naval operative, triggering a physical fight.
The clash quickly degenerated, with personnel from both sides exchanging blows as bystanders watched in shock.
It was gathered that the incident occurred as the President was departing from an official function in the state on Friday.
As of the time of filing this report, the immediate cause of the disagreement had yet to be ascertained.
Reacting, the Director of Naval Information, , confirmed that those involved had been taken into custody.
According to him, the affected personnel are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures in line with military regulations.
“The affected personnel are in custody and are undergoing appropriate administrative and disciplinary processes,” he stated.
The Navy assured that necessary actions would be taken to address the incident in accordance with established rules governing the conduct of its personnel.
