A 40-year-old Nigerian woman, Omotayo Abioye, has died in the United Kingdom after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
Her death was announced on Friday by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby and a former president of the Nigerian community in the UK.
Kuti disclosed that Abioye passed away on Sunday, April 5, leaving behind her three children aged 11, nine, and seven.
“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Omotayo Abioye, who departed this life on Sunday, the 5th of April, in the United Kingdom,” he said.
He described the deceased as a devoted mother, loving wife, and compassionate individual who remained strong throughout her illness.
According to him, “She was truly exceptional—kind, generous, and full of life, with a vibrant spirit that brightened every space she entered.”
Kuti added that Abioye was known for her warm personality and ability to unite people, noting her passion for dancing and her welcoming nature.
He further stated that she remained steadfast in her faith during her illness, demonstrating resilience and courage.
He said, “Her life reflected strength, hope, and unwavering faith despite the challenges she faced.”
Kuti also called on Nigerians both at home and abroad to support the bereaved family, revealing that fundraising efforts had begun within the UK Nigerian community to assist with funeral arrangements and the welfare of her children.
He urged well-meaning individuals to contribute through an ongoing GoFundMe campaign, stressing that every form of support would help ease the burden on the family.
