The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has criticised the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over what it described as delayed and reactive governance, following the state’s first Executive Council meeting of the year.

The opposition party, in a statement issued on Wednesday, expressed concern that the meeting, held several months into the year, reflected a lack of urgency in addressing critical issues confronting the state.

The PDP said, “A government that takes months to assemble itself for deliberation cannot convincingly claim urgency in addressing the pressing needs of its people.”

It added that the delayed meeting pointed to what it termed a deeper culture of inertia, which it said had defined the administration’s approach to governance.

While acknowledging the government’s plan to construct new hospitals, the party questioned the priority placed on new projects amid the poor state of existing healthcare facilities across the state.

The statement read, “Healthcare delivery is not merely about erecting new buildings; it is about strengthening the entire system, from personnel to equipment to maintenance.”

The party further criticised the government for what it described as inadequate attention to security, noting that many communities were still grappling with threats and uncertainty.

It said, “What is presented is a catalogue of approvals rather than a coherent, actionable security framework.”

The PDP also raised concerns over the absence of detailed information on the proposed projects, including funding, timelines and contractors, accusing the administration of operating without transparency.

It stated, “The people deserve more than aggregated figures and vague projections,” warning that repeated announcements without delivery had fuelled public scepticism.

The opposition party urged the government to adopt a more proactive approach, emphasising the need for urgency, accountability and measurable outcomes in governance.
