The Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Olajide Ipinsagba, has said criticisms against him stem largely from a lack of awareness of his accomplishments in office.
Ipinsagba, in a statement on Tuesday, explained that many of his interventions across the district were not widely publicised, noting that he deliberately avoids using the media to promote himself.
The lawmaker maintained that while he welcomes constructive criticism, some of the attacks against him were unfair and often driven by misinformation.
He said, “I am not against criticism, but it should be constructive. Unfortunately, some people criticise destructively because they are not fully aware of what we have done.”
The senator highlighted several projects and interventions executed within his first two years in office, cutting across education, infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment and community development.
Ipinsagaba said, “Despite my achievements, I have built Civic Centers in Okeagbe and Ikare facilitated contracts for same in Arigidi-Akoko and Owo. . Also an ICT Centre in Ipe and Busary for over 1000 indigent students. Also renovation of six classrooms each at Lennon jubilee and AUD Grammar School in Ikare-Akoko.
“The school’s renovation extends to Ese, Irun, Ogbagi, Idoani , and some schools in Ose local governmen. Very soon we will be doing our Mega Empowerment that constitutents will benefit.”
Among what I have done in the past were: “Proposed Bill for the Establishment of ICT University in Ikare Akoko , first of its kind in Africa (Passed by Nigeria Senate and awaiting concurrence of the House of Representatives) ,empowerment and training of farmers on promoting agriculture; skill development initiatives on soap and toiletries making; organisation of face-to-face town hall meetings; sponsorship of proposed Owo and Akoko Security Summits ; facilitation of and installation of solar-powered lights in communities across the six local governments in the district including Adekunle Ajasin University Senate Building.”
“Empowerment programmes for tailors, youths and women; free eye medical outreach and surgeries; digital marketing training with laptops and grants; ICT training for women; distribution of relief materials; provision of hospital equipment to State Specialist Hospital, Ikare; support for schools for physically challenged and visually impaired; installation of transformers in Owo, Isua , Ogbagi, Okeagbe, Ose and Ikare
“Construction and renovation of classrooms in schools across the district; building of shops and roads; facilitation of foreign scholarships; NDDC training programmes; construction of town halls and boreholes in several communities; renovation of Onisua Palace; JAMB sponsorship for over 1,000 students yearly; and ongoing medical outreach programmes across the district.”
Ipinsagba also cited recent facilitation of five academic appointments at Federal University Oye-Ekiti for constituents, describing it as part of his commitment to creating job opportunities for the people.
He stressed that the appointments, which include lecturers and graduate assistants, would have long-term benefits for the beneficiaries and their communities, adding that impactful leadership should be measured by results rather than publicity.
The senator, however, pledged to intensify his efforts, assuring constituents that more large-scale empowerment programmes would soon be unveiled to further improve livelihoods across Ondo North.
