Ose youths distance self from planned rally, cite neglect

The Ose Youths Progressive Initiative has dissociated itself from a planned solidarity walk in support of the second-term ambition of the senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Jide Ipinsagba.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group said it was speaking on behalf of concerned youths and stakeholders in Ose Local Government, insisting that it would not be part of any activity aimed at endorsing the lawmaker.

The group hinged its decision on what it described as years of neglect, underrepresentation and lack of visible constituency projects in the area.

According to the statement, the only notable project attributed to the senator in the local government is a block of market stalls in Elegbeka community, which it said falls short of the developmental needs of the people.

The group said the planned walk was capable of creating a misleading impression of acceptance and endorsement among the youth population.

It also alleged attempts to recruit individuals to pose as Ose youths for the purpose of the rally, warning against what it described as impersonation and politically motivated mobilisation.

The group urged youths and community stakeholders to refrain from participating in the exercise, stressing that anyone who takes part would be doing so in a personal capacity.

It added that such participation should not be interpreted as reflecting the collective position of youths in the local government.

The initiative, however, reaffirmed its commitment to advocating development, accountability and improved representation for the people of Ose Local Government.
