Panic as student stabbed to death as freshers’ party turns bloody

A freshers’ celebration at the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, Niger State, turned fatal in the early hours of Thursday after a student was reportedly stabbed during a dispute.

The Niger State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that it was reported at the A Division in Kontagora at about 1:40 a.m. on April 5, 2026.

Abiodun said the victim, identified as 25-year-old Seyi Simon, got into a confrontation with an 18-year-old, Jafar Musa, believed to be from the Angwan-Gwari area of the town.

He explained that the altercation later degenerated into violence, during which Musa allegedly attacked Simon with a sharp object.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the victim was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where medical personnel confirmed him dead upon arrival.

According to him, the suspect has since been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

He appealed to students and residents to remain peaceful, assuring that the command would ensure justice is served.

The development has left the university community shaken, with renewed concerns over security during student gatherings.
