The Ondo State Police Command has stepped up security measures in Ondo South with the deployment of additional personnel and operational assets to troubled communities following rising tensions in parts of the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed this during an on-the-spot assessment tour of the region on Thursday, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthen security architecture nationwide.
The tour, which covered Ore, Ilaje and Ikale areas, was aimed at assessing the security situation, identifying emerging threats and reinforcing strategies to maintain peace and order.
During a stakeholders’ meeting in Igbekebo, Ese Odo Local Government Area, the CP met with the council chairman, Caleb Molos, traditional rulers and other community leaders to deliberate on prevailing security challenges.
Top among the concerns raised were boundary disputes and the displacement of residents following recent clashes in Agadagba involving the Kuribo and Arogbo communities.
Lawal, while addressing the gathering, urged the warring parties to exercise restraint and embrace dialogue, warning that violence would further aggravate the situation and stall development in the area.
The police boss also visited scenes of reported arson in the affected communities and assured residents of a thorough investigation into the incidents.
He said those found culpable would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“As part of efforts to forestall further breakdown of law and order, we have reinforced security presence in the affected areas with the deployment of additional personnel and operational assets,” he said.
Lawal reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
The command added that it would continue to take proactive steps to address security challenges and ensure a peaceful environment across the state.
