The Acting Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Engr. Lawson Olorunwa Sunday, on Monday formally assumed office, calling on staff and stakeholders to support efforts aimed at restoring full academic activities in the institution.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the Senior Assistant Registrar, Public Relations and Protocol, Olumide Olugosi.

Olorunwa, who was received by workers at the institution’s main gate, expressed appreciation for the warm reception, assuring that issues affecting the polytechnic would be addressed through appropriate channels.

Addressing staff shortly after his arrival, the acting rector pledged to prioritise matters relating to workers’ welfare, including pending promotions, in line with established procedures.

He later met with key stakeholders, where he urged employees to comply with the Ondo State Government’s directive on the resumption of academic and administrative activities.

According to him, the prolonged disruption in the institution has adversely affected academic programmes, administrative operations and students’ progress.

He noted that the state government had demonstrated commitment to workers’ welfare through the payment of salary arrears and the setting up of a committee to address the implementation of the new minimum wage.

Some stakeholders at the meeting, however, called for a review of issues surrounding the suspension of union activities, stressing the need for lasting industrial harmony within the institution.

Responding, Olorunwa appealed for cooperation and understanding, urging staff to return to duty while dialogue continues to resolve outstanding concerns.

Also speaking, the Acting Registrar, Mr O.M. Oloye, appealed to stakeholders to support management’s efforts at resolving the issues amicably in the interest of the institution.

The acting rector reiterated his commitment to dialogue and constructive engagement, expressing optimism that normalcy would soon be restored to the polytechnic.
